Dahlias from the Roepke/Furcht gardens. 
Someone asked me, last week, why I love dahlias and not say, roses. 
I told her dahlias, all kinds and colors and sizes of them, are always very sculptural - in growth, life and death. 
And, they seem to have a more regal stance than let's say, peonies which are always falling over on themselves due to weight gain. And peonies are much more about the masses of them rather than individual... its one of the reasons, I choose dahlias -- 
or what about roses, she asked me.
Nope. They remind me of my cousin, Emily Dickinson (yes the one and only E.D.). Wound up tighter than a drum. With brief outbursts of meaning. Dahlia is more like Frank O'Hara. Michael Ondaatje. Joy Harjo.
We digressed from here - to discussing Ondaatje's works from "The Collected Works of Billy the Kid" to "Warlight" and how he became our favorite storyteller along side Toni Morrison. 
But. I've digressed.

Of late, I'm working on how to present climate change and its effects on us, the elements, plants and animals, stars and suns, winds and water. 
Looking at an image of a glacier melting is effective - esp if its calving. 
However.
There are so many many emotions revolving around climate change - - and I just want to tackle it in a way thats different from satellite images and melted glaciers and water logged streams and lakes.. on one hand, i'm happy every feb when it starts getting warm - and the snow is melting in early march. and it stays warm into december. 
How could we not love that?
But now, 23 days of air pollution alerts - so bad even inside sucks of clean air.
and 22 days of heat over 115. 
Time to do something......
