Stuntz Bay Historic Boathouses at Lake Vermillion, Tower-Soudan, MN.
Turn of the century Soudan Mine gave the employees permission to build boathouses with mine scrap. And they did. 143 boathouses are there.

My dad died 8 years ago today. I miss him. All the time. At the most unexpected times. This part of the eulogy I wrote for him
"We have never heard nor seen so many grown men cry at your passing....so many people cry. I've want to stand inside their sorrow and grief to stroke it gently and whisper my dad's love for us all still exists in each and every one of us if we just stay still and listen for it. 
He now speaks the language of water and waves. 
The language of wind through a stand of pines. 
The language of blades of skates scratching ice during an Ice Mice hockey game. 
The language of a sugar maple dripping sap in an empty bucket. 
The language of trees and plants sprouting roots on a tailings pond.
The language of a paddle dipping into water and the language of a canoe hitting waves.
The language of a flat stone skipping on Lake Superior.
The language of a handshake between Masons.
The language of a chain saw and a tree.
The language of a sweet silent nights and bright constellations.
The language of sunrises and sunsets and warm sunshine and rainstorms and thunder and snowfall.
The language of agates, amethyst, basalt, jasper, thomsonite, chert, petrified wood, iron, copper.
The language of white red scotch and jack pines, spruce, balsam, aspen, sugar maple, oak and every seedling growing roots.
The language of friendships and wilderness.
The language of prayer in a church.
The language of family"

Its in a Project I did with mostly Irises, dahlias. The story behind this project began with Joe Giannetti letting me study with him - he fast became my very good friend and my most excellent mentor--which he does. The winter before these sprang into existness I was very frustrated with my work. I couldn't tell my images from many many other floral photographers work. Joe kept working with me and opening my sight so to speak. One day I opened the Hiro book "Fighting Fish, Fighting Birds". The fish had personality--and I could spot his work out of many beta fish. So I challenged myself. Start shooting and look for the "personality". One day I showed Joe some of the new work and I heard "you hit the mark, Cynthia". That's Joe telling me the image is really good.
Thus began this project. I'm hoping to find a lot of irises this spring to photograph -- the project is still moving forward...
If you live in the Twin Cities area and have irises. Are willing to let me in the garden, please DM me! I will make sure you have a print of the work!
